The IPCC suggests that limiting global warming to 1.5°C will require Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) of between 5-15 Gt (1 Gt=1 billion tons) each year by 2050. CDR in 2021 was estimated to total a mere 0.018 Gt globally. This leaves us less than 3 decades to scale our efforts by 50,000% if we are to save the planet. Planboo is a nature-based carbon removal company, using biochar. We develop a circular system for plantations throughout the Global South, helping them access carbon finance by producing biochar from bamboo and plant waste, using it for soil amendment and renewable heat for their factories. The result of our collaboration is a reliable supply of high-quality carbon removal credits and a carbon rich biochar for soil amendment.
